Bonawe Iron Furnace
Iron Foundry in Scotland, dating from the Post-Medieval
The most complete remaining charcoal-fuelled ironworks in Britain, established in 1753 on the shores of Loch Etive in the Scottish Highlands. Iron ore was shipped from Cumbria to exploit the abundant local wood for charcoal. The furnace produced cannonballs for Nelson's navy.
