Rock Art, GLANTEENASSIG
Rock Art in Ireland, dating from the Bronze Age
An earthfast boulder lying beside the S gable of a ruined outhouse on the N verge of a trackway leading W towards Lough Slat. It measures 1.4m E-W x .77m x c. 0.26m thick. The entire upper surface is covered by a large number of cup-marks and possible cup-marks varying in diameter from .09 to .015m, with a maximum depth of c. 0.03m; these are quite irregular and uneven compared to other examples. The surface of the stone is also extensively pitted as a result of weathering and some of the smaller, less well-defined cup-marks may have a similar origin. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 184. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
