Rock Art, GORTLECK

Rock Art in Ireland, dating from the Bronze Age

Located in the NE of a graveyard (DG019-005001-). This consists of a low, irregularly-shaped slab (max. Wth 0.35m; T 0.07m; exposed H 0.32m), aligned NW-SE, which is set upright in the ground and serves as a gravemarker. There are three well-defined, circular cup marks in a triangular arrangement on its SW face. The uppermost cupmark is the largest (diam. 0.07m; D 0.04m) and is located roughly in the centre of the stone. The other two cup marks are a few centimetres beneath this, at the base of the exposed stone face, and are roughly equal in size, and more or less in line side by side: the one to SE (diam. 0.06m; D 0.03m) being at a slightly higher level than the that (diam. 0.06m; 0.02m) to NW, which is partly concealed beneath the present ground level. In the NW of the graveyard there is a stone gravemarker, roughly cross-shaped, which also bears cupmarks (DG019-005005-).
