Unknown (Sutton Wreck)

Carvel in Ireland

Wooden wreck discovered during dredging for the Dublin Bay Pipeline Project during April 2001. Subsequently called the Sutton Wreck. A series of wooden ship frames was revealed, protruding from the excavated trench approximately 25–30cm below the surrounding seabed. The wreck appeared to be orientated N–S. The site appeared to consist of the remains of an intact carvel-built vessel buried in the seabed up to 1.5m in depth. The lower hull of the vessel was visible, with planking held in place wit
