Årsdale is an authentic fishing village on Bornholm's east coast, first referenced in the 1300s during the great Baltic herring boom. The harbour was built in 1870 and extended several times. The village retains three working smokehouses and many half-timbered houses up to 200 years old. A notable landmark is the octagonal Dutch windmill from 1877 with its sails and intact machinery, now one of Bornholm's museum mills.
