Louisenlund grove near Østermarie contains Bornholm's second-largest collection of standing stones (bautasten), with approximately 50 menhirs still standing among the trees, many over 2.5 metres tall. The site takes its name from King Frederik VII's visit to Bornholm in August 1851. The stones were erected as memorials to the dead during the Iron Age (roughly 350-900 AD), standing on low mounds over graves containing cremated remains.
