Hjortsballe

Hjortsballe is located west of Them in Silkeborg Kommune and is particularly notable for its well-preserved Iron Age field systems (oldtidsagre) with associated stone heaps, situated in a beautiful forest clearing. The Iron Age fields have a classical location on a ridge with fertile grazing meadows in the valley below, and they were protected by an early preservation order from 1908. The surrounding forest contains oak coppice with multi-stemmed trees and the distinctive heathland area Gavlbanker.
