Randbøl Hede is Denmark's largest inland heath at 750 hectares, located 8 km southeast of Billund. In the 1750s, German colonists settled here in villages named Frederiksnåde, Frederikshåb, and Moltkenberg after King Frederik V, but within six years only 12 of the original 86 families remained after harsh drought and livestock disease. Stone walls, clay pits, and earthworks at Frederiksnåde still preserve the former settlement pattern, and the heath has been protected since 1932 as an area of national significance.
