Sønder Omme Plantage

Sønder Omme Plantage is the largest plantation in the area at 823 hectares, containing 19 different tree species. It was established as a joint stock company (Aktieselskabet Sønder Omme Plantage) in 1901 after a devastating heathland fire in 1899 threatened local farmers' livelihoods with sand drift and flying ash. The plantation was planted at a rate of 50 hectares per year over 15 years and did not reach its current appearance until the mid-1950s, having survived additional fires in 1926 and 1928.
