Skovshoved is a former fishing village on the Øresund coast, first mentioned in writing on 29 January 1275, though fishing here likely dates to the Stone Age. In 1869 local fishermen built the fishing harbour, which was expanded in 1936-1938 and today is the largest marina in Gentofte with over 600 berths. The last full-time fisher left the profession around 1960, and the village retains evidence of its fishing heritage including steep slipways, narrow streets to the water, and a fishergirl sculpture.
