Ubberup Højskole and the associated Valgmenighedskirke (free church) together constitute a kulturmiljø expressing the breakthrough of Grundtvigianism in the Kalundborg area. The folk high school opened in 1899 as a Grundtvigian school for girls, while in 1898 members of the Ubberup Valgmenighed built their own free church in Gørlev. Since 2000 the school has concentrated on lifestyle-change courses, but the ensemble retains its cultural-historical narrative about the Grundtvigian movement.
