Nekselø is a small, relatively untouched island in Sejrø Bay consisting of a striking ridge of morainic hills culminating at 41 metres. The island has been inhabited since the Ertebølle period in the older Stone Age, and in the Middle Ages it was divided between the Roskilde and Aarhus dioceses. Nekselø was protected by preservation orders in 1951 and 1985 to preserve its unique and species-rich vegetation.
