The allotment gardens (haveforeninger) in Åby/Åbyhøj represent a cluster of early-to-mid 20th century garden associations, including Enghave (founded 1925), Bakkevang (founded 1942), Vesterled, and others. These associations were established to give urban workers the opportunity to grow vegetables, enjoy nature, and build community, and they developed into green oases within the growing industrial suburb of Åbyhøj. The area documents the Danish allotment garden movement and its role in working-class social life.
